Hunan Star in Houston

Found paper clip in my sweet and sour sauce and plastic in my chicken. Really loved this place but has been having issues more and more recently.

Always a great place to get good food at a good price. We always enjoy eating here.

Well the service was ok. The waitress was SUPER attentive which was borderline ANNOYING!! I was the only person dining at the time but I would have liked to enjoy my meal. The spring rolls were flavorless unless you spiced them up yourself. Portion size on the fried rice was nice but I didn't finish it all, nor did I take it home. Needless to say I won't be returning.

Nice people and decent prices with an extensive menu, but the food is essentially tasteless. At least the two lunch entries I tried (broccoli and bean curd, shrimp with vegetables). I may try one more time because it is convenient but I don't expect much I am sad to say....

The food at this restaurant is really good. The food always meets a pretty high standard. As mentioned in other reviews, the egg rolls here are really good. The service here is satisfactory. If I had to compare this restaurant's food to the two other main Chinese restaurants in this area (888 and Clear lake Hunan), the sauces at this restaurant are less thick when compared to the other two. I personally like thicker sauces so I don't go to this restaurant as often but whenever I am in the mood for Chinese food that is less thick, this restaurant never disappoints me.

This is my favorite place to visit on a daily basis. The staff is nice, helpful, attentive and incredibly friendly and professional. They always have a smile and the service is always fast. The entire menu is affordable and delicious. They have so many items to choose and the portions are big, I alway leave full. Everything is freah and hot. I can be a picky eater and they always remember my special requests. All their soups, chicken, beef, seafood, noodle and rice dishes are full of flavor and unique.When my family visits I bring them here. And every time they visit they ask to go here and they talk about it with everyone back home.I strongly recommended Hunan Star, definately a great Houston establishment.

Have been enjoying the food here for years....Quality and quantity are awesome.....service above n beyond.....personal favorites-- egg foo young, chicken or shrimp and pepper steak, egg rolls and fried rice!!!

Usually the food here is good, I order the General Tso's chicken and it's amazing, the steamed dumplings are amazing. Just do not, I REPEAT, DO NOT ORDER THE FRIED RICE. It's just horribly overcooked or something, it just tastes burnt and weird, maybe it's the rice they use but I wouldn't order it again.

I eat here once a week for lunch, usually get the General Tso's crispy. Super friendly staff, reasonable pricing, and great portion size. $10 will get you soup, a large entree, and an egg roll.

Ordered General Chicken and Hot and Sour soup. Both were absolutely disgusting! Bland! Bland! Bland! Extremely disappointed! So gross!

It was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chicken in our spicy chicken and vegetables was slimy and gross, and they told us it was because it was dark meat chicken and they could switch it for white meat chicken. We erred on the side of caution and left.

Omg my husband and so got so sick from eating here idk what was wrong with the hot and sour soups but it was slimy and tasted off and now I’m on my couch with a huge stomach ache and I feel like puking so bad. Night ruined. Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my life

I've lived in the area for decades and don't know how I missed this place. Went there last week and it was amazing. The best egg rolls I have ever had in my life--so crisp and so fresh I thought it was a fluke. I went back a couple of days later and tried them again and the same--they are simply the best. I read some of the reviews here about the staff not being pleasant. That wasn't my experience. They were very friendly and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good prices for good Asian food. Wait staff thoughtfully explain everything you may want to know and was attentive of our needs well beyond payment of our meal.

I normally go there for work purposes to get food for other people. Today I decided to go there and try the food for myself. When I say to you the food is so delicious and it tastes like it's made with love. It has definitely become my favorite Asian restaurant. Try it you do not know what you're missing!

I usually like this place. It’s got ok food and the people are usually nice enough. However, this time my mother and I picked up food and I’m very disappointed. The wonton soup was awful. They did not cook it well and it tastes as if it was warmed up and not cooked properly. I did not finish it. The cabbage/vegetable in this was not cleaned. The cabbage has black specks everywhere on it. It looks old and the broth tastes old,watery, and bland. However, the rice was ok even though it tastes a bit off and was not fried all the way through either. There were big chunks of white still in it, that also taste soggy. The only good thing was the cream puffs.

I go here all the time they have great food, amazing hospitality and a soothing environment to enjoy food in!

Staff here are very friendly and the food is really good. The egg rolls and cheese puffs make excellent appetizers. The Chicken Fried rice is usually really good but so are the BBQ Pork Lo Mein, the orange chicken, and the lemon chicken. This restaurant is usually quiet which makes it great for eating with friends that you want to talk with as you don't have to shout over each other to carry conversation like at other local restaurants.

I've been going to this place for at least 7 years. These people know me. I always tip well over 20%, I never have once complained, but today these people lost a customer. Unfortunately for them, the main guy wasn't there because he would have fixed the problem. The problem is that I ordered a side of broccoli (for my 4 year old) and was charged $9.86. I kind of laughed at first and thought for sure that wasn't right. When I questioned the charge, the lady just said "yes, yes, I'm sorry"... to make a longer story short, I still paid $9.86 for broccoli. How ridiculous! Never going back. Shame on them.

DELICIOUS food! I discovered this place while out working for UBEREATS! I always had pick up's from their, so i wanted to see for myself what the place was all about,and the reviews looked nice! I ordered the general to's,and my husband ordered the combination fried rice! PICTURES INCLUDED!😋🤳

Great restaurant I love it

We come here fairly regularly and rarely eat chinese from anywhere else! They have the best sesame chicken! The service is fast and friendly. We usually do takeout for our family movie nights and never regret it :)

I went here a year ago(before this review) for the Chinese New year and never really made a review due to not going there for a long while. However after returning I was hit with the amazing staff(who still remembered my family and I) and the food. The steamed dumplings were extremely fresh. The waitress was nice and really felt like I was eating in a nice family restaurant. I've read the reviews and I'm appalled at the reviews based off the take out. I hate to say this but if you're going to give a proper review then go to the restaurant and dine there. Take outs often have flukes and is not exactly the most fresh.

Simply the best chinese restaurant in Clear Lake. They also make delivery on time. Definitely worth it.

Ordered off the lunch menu and was happy with the sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, egg roll, and wanton soup. The pork is equally as good.

This place is always consistent with the dishes I have ordered. Wait staff friendly. This place is good for casual meetings: carpeted floor and quiet acoustics.

General Tso's was extremely hard and crunchy, overly salty. Everything else we had was delicious.

This place is amazing. Huge tap beer selection. I recommend getting there on Sunday about 1130 am. They open at noon. Amazing soup to be had. Get it until it is gone.

Always Very Consistent in flavor and Excellent service

Less than mediocre. Very bland and has little to no satisfaction to the stomach. Quite a cozy environment not very loud and has a good atmosphere but the food doesn’t represent. All in all I wouldn’t recommend.“Waitress was really great though

The food here is really good! The inside looked a little dated and it looked to well kept, but I was only there for a pick up.

Typical American Chinese cuisine. I tried Kungpao chicken (spicy), but it was not spicy at all. I had one orange peel in my dish, and other little pieces that had weird taste. I worried if those pieces are leftovers from other people

Ordered on Uber Eats. Waited 40 mins and then they cancelled the order with no explanation. There’s no way to rate them on Uber Eats if the deal isn’t complete. Call someone and explain what the problem is. Now I have to go search for food after waiting 40 mins.

We love coming to Hunan Star. The food is always good, hot, and fresh. By far my favorite Chinese food place. I love the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken, chicken corn soup, egg rolls, and their cheese puffs! The tea is always fresh and delicious! They are very quick and the people who work here are always so nice and friendly. Love coming here and their to-go food is always super fast!

Great Chinese food. We love the spicy Hunan flavors. Always good. Glad they deliver with Door Dash so can simply order and have delivered quickly.

The best Chinese restaurant ever! My family has been coming here since the 80s.

It used to be very good. Saturday evening was like a ghost house, no one except us. Waiter proceeded to tell us 1 order vegetable fried rice would be enough for the both of us. Didn't ask if we wanted anything more. Made the fried rice with eggs when we said not to. Not many veggies at all in the rice. We won't come back to this place. We are vegetarians.

They make amazing cheese puffs and great rice. The chicken is also very good. I've been going there for over 16 years becuase it's so good!
